Most people think that LEARNING is just formal education that initiates in the early childhood and continue when you grow up but, what I actually consider Learning is? As a teacher, I take into account that the way people behave as a result of their experience through their whole life means real learning. Every experience we have is a step that carries us to another situation that allows us to pursue improvement.
When I started teaching I just was a starry-eyed, believing that it was the correct way to share knowledge. It was about 2008 when I began this ineffable career that allows me to grow and improve not just my knowledge but the way I help others. My philosophy of teaching initiate based on all of the involvement that I passed and learned through the teaching road. I can say that my students, colleagues, directors, bosses, studies at the university, congresses and even my childrengave me a lot of experience that carries myself to one step to another. However, I can`t feel that I already know the all. I am ambitious. I am always doing my best in order to give a successful teaching to my students.
The first time I taught at a school was transcendental for me. It let me know that teaching is not just a job or a profession to earn money and to provide people some knowledge but also, a way people acquire the ability to interact with others through different kind of activities such as playing games, singing songs, and discussing and reading interesting topics.
Teaching teens and adult people is my passion but I remembered I used to teach them in the traditional way (The audio-lingual method) I learned too. Of course, I knew this way would make them feel bored despite, it was just the way I already knew. On the other hand, it wasn’t too bad, considering that grades were good and nobody complained. Otherwise, at this time I was studying my career and I was motivated by a great teacher who always said that good teachers aren’t whose know more but whose teach in a way nobody can forget. That phrase was my inspiration to continue growing and learning more. I also was motivated by my first boss who always tried to improve my teaching by giving me support and training thus, I decided to study more about the best theories in learning and teaching.
In 2011 after three years that I started teaching I discovered and began to practice a great technique that involves lots of practice and interaction between students in classrooms, that means group work what is actually called cooperative learning (CL) in which although every student is different in level, motivation, interest, and family background has more learning opportunities through cooperative activities.
Being a teacher I realized that I can play different roles in my students learning the process. I can be a guide as well as a facilitator and monitor and at the same time I can push them to be responsible and independent, taking into consideration that not the all of them have their parents attention and on the contrary, some depend a lot on them. During the time I act as a teacher I always try to increase my students' imagination so they can get the ability to solve problems as well as they enjoy the time.
In my own experience in teaching I have felt that teaching English led me to a zigzagging thus, I can learn from my students and they learn from me, too. At this time I always try to develop enriching activities that motivate my students to continue growing and learning rather than focus on what I teach. Through the time I teach I have been performing different methods and techniques nevertheless, there is always something new and although I have a second language bachelor’s degree I want to be better for my students and, I am happy to start this new experience that is my master`s degree where is obviously a great chance to get more knowledge, techniques, and methods and to improve the old one.
One of the best examples to follow Communicative Language Teaching method (CLT) is to give our students meaningful activities that involve themselves into a real communication where they feel comfortable and self-confident at the moment they develop their skills instead of feeling afraid of studying a new language due to the fact that the aim in here is communication by using the language.
Total physical response (TPR) is other of the good methods to make them feel confident taking into account that its combines information and skills through the use of the kinesthetic sensory system. I always use it at the first moment I start with a new group of students even if they are adults so that increase their self-esteem and motivation. They love to participate when they don’t feel under attack.
As I said before I have developed the majority of the methods and techniques with my students inside classrooms trying to become an eclectic teacher but of course, I have to gain a lot more experience in order to be one of the best around the world.
I always propose to my students the use of various techniques to let them to a different kind of teaching and as I reveal my beliefs on teaching and learning I finally realize that we as teachers have a lot of missions but I set the most important:
to build up positive learning;
to motivate our learners' enthusiasm for learning;
And to provide them a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
One of the most valuable experience as an English teacher I can share and recommend is that repetitions are from the past. Students at this time get knowledge through different interesting topics used in opened questions that allow our students to give their own opinions using and producing the language instead.
THE WAY I TEACH IS WHAT I SHOW ABOUT ME ... TEACHING IS A WAY TO HELP PEOPLE TO GET NEW KNOWLEDGE AND TO RETAIN INFORMATION BUT HOW THEY ACQUIRE THIS INFORMATION IS THE CRUCIAL POINT IN THE PROCESS OF LEARNING ANY SUBJECT.
