I always use technology however we as teachers are always finding something new for our students and through the development of this course I learned how to use other useful tools and techniques in class and also I perform the use of others I already used. Some of them are “Lyrics Training” and “Classroom Platform” both that I use in my class for homework and to practice the language with my students at “Simon Bolivar Institute located in Guayaquil.
My students are between 19-50 years old, they are studying to get their degree as technicians. The majority of my students are adult people and they have lots of experience in the area they choose to study but, in the English content a great percent of them do not have a good level although, it was a little difficult to work with these kinds of activities and besides that they do not use too much technology. Nevertheless, it was not an impediment to practice the language using these useful tools that provide the opportunity to develop all the skills.
I chose two that I always use “Lyrics Training” and “Classroom Platform” because they are entertaining and helpful for them to practice the language in real time. The first is a game “Lyrics Training” that apart of giving the chance to practice, let them the opportunity to enjoy English classes singing their favourite songs. The other is “Classroom Platform”, that is a platform, where students have the chance to practice using some material provided by the teacher and having the chance to follow examples and checking a different kind of stuff to perform or develop the activities. To use these tools and to develop these activities I need a projector, my laptop and internet access.
For “Lyrics Training” my students do not need the internet because they just perform what I put on the screen I just take some time to prepare it. It will be at list 20 minutes or less to plan this class. I needed to create an account on this site “Lyrics Training” to elaborate my own exercises however, I can use the ones that are already created without an account. This site is for free, so I did not have to pay for the account. The tool allowed me to choose a filling gap activity or a writing activity. Also, students do not have to have or create an account to play it. The game is for all ages. I can use it in class to practice grammar, vocabulary, listening, writing and any activity and at the same time to motivate my students to learn a new language.
“The Classroom Platform” is the platform that I use every class to develop homework activities, to reinforce knowledge learned in the classroom and I also can use it for evaluations, assessment and to give them some feedback. I do not need too much time to create classes there and I can use it for different courses, too. Teachers and students are allowed to use it if they have a Google account. It offers lots of facilities for teachers and students.
My students were so happy at that moment when I introduce the tool to sing because they were allowed to sing what they love. I felt proud and it was a terrific experience at the first time due to the fact that I use it was with a class without motivation. I gave them one of my souvenirs I won in one of my preparation courses and I could feel they were so excited.
On the other hand “The Classroom Platform” is a little complicated for some of my students and some of them also regret to use it. However there is no chance to say no for them, because the platform is used to evaluate their progress to evaluate them and also to give them some feedback.
